11 September 2017On Monday, September 18th, 2017, the American Samoa Coastal Management Program (ASCMP) at the Department of Commerce will kick off their annual Coast Weeks agenda to highlight and celebrate our coastal resources.
Their program theme, A Healthy Coast is a Wealthy Coast, is true to form encouraging community members to take notice of our islands’ natural resources and to be mindful of the environmental footprint they leave behind for future generations.
Coast Weeks is also the start of a larger territory wide event called PALS that includes initiatives from multiple agencies across the American Samoa Government, facilitating events each month to celebrate People, Air, Land, and Sea.
This program starts with Coast Weeks in September and ends with the annual Holiday Festival in December.
The Coast Weeks program this year will once again be comprised of Paddling Challenges, Eco-tours of our wetlands and protected areas, art competition, workshops on how the integration of technology systems help with effectively managing our natural resources, and lastly, the event will end on September 30th with a family fun day at Su’iga’ula Beach Park in Utulei with food, games, and entertainment for the entire community to enjoy.
