2 October 2025The American Samoa Visitors Bureau (ASVB) proudly marked a milestone for the territory’s tourism and cultural calendar with the successful staging of the first Paogo Cultural Week, held 22–26 September 2025 at Suigaula.
Dedicated to honoring the Paogo (Ulafala)—American Samoa’s Territorial Flower—and the living traditions of the Samoan people, the week-long celebration brought residents and visitors together through a vibrant programme of cultural activities.
Guests experienced Siva Samoa ma Pese (traditional dance and song), Siapo and Elei making, Tatau exhibitions, wood carving, weaving of fala, adornments and launiu. The schedule also featured boat tours, agricultural demonstrations under the “Helping Our Land Grow” initiative, a hands-on fire knife dance class, local food vendors, and the highly anticipated Paogo Fashion Show, which showcased innovative Samoan design inspired by heritage motifs. Festivities culminated in a spectacular Fashion Show Finale on Friday evening.
ASVB Director Taimalelagi Minnie Tuia praised the collaboration behind the event:
“Paogo Cultural Week brought together government, private sector and community partners in an extraordinary display of pride and partnership. This event lays a strong foundation for celebrating our identity while creating authentic cultural experiences for both residents and visitors.”
The success of this inaugural celebration was made possible by the collective effort of government agencies, private sector partners, local businesses, artists, cultural leaders, designers and the tourism industry. Their support ensured a memorable and impactful week that highlighted Samoan culture and strengthened community pride.
