Solomon Islands New Heads Of Missions For London, Suva, And Geneva Appointed
12 April 2018On April 17, 2018, our destination will celebrate 118 years of American Heritage as a US Territory.
This year’s theme for the celebration is “Youth of the Future.”
The territory has been busy with preparations for the upcoming festivities, which will include a 3 day Business, Farm & Health Fair to kick off the weeklong celebration April 11-13.
In addition to information, retail, and food booths, this year’s Fair will have cook off, handicraft, and produce competitions along with a special Jazz Performance by the Samoana Jazz & Arts Festival group to celebrate the “Ports of Paradise,” a tribute to Mavis Rivers and American Samoa being the birthplace of Jazz in Pacific.
Other activities planned for this festive week are cultural performances, sport competitions, traditional church service, and of course the highly anticipated Fautasi Race (longboat). The Fautasi races are scheduled for Saturday, April 14, 2018.
Nine boats have registered to participate: Aeto (Pago Pago), Fuao (Vatia), Fealofani Samoa II (Fagasa), Matausaua (Manu’a), Iseula Ole Moana III (Fagatogo), Paepaeulupo’o (Aua), Taema (Leone), Fono, and Army Reserve.
Due to heavy damages to their villages from TC Gita, Nu’uuli and Faga’alu will not participate in this year’s competition.
