An Update from Research and Stats: Surveys key to making informed decisions

The review of the SPTO online library, more widely known as the Regional Tourism Resource Center (RTRC) as well as the communication products including the monthly Market Watch, a SPTO monthly update on outbound market trends amongst others was launched this month. Led by Eagles Consultancy, a Fiji-based consultancy company, the review aims to support SPTO efforts in ensuring that access to information, research, statistics and sustainable tourism practices is improved.  An online survey was conducted to gauge feedback on these services with one on one meetings held with key partners and stakeholders. SPTO acknowledges all stakeholder who contributed to the survey. Your support is greatly appreciated.

IDEEA Group on the other hand continued to participate actively in the stakeholder review process for the Pacific Sustainable Tourism Policy Framework with the aim of gauging essential input as it starts with the drafting of the Pacific Tourism Statistics Strategy. The two regional policies are developed concurrently to ensure alignment in approach and that Goals, Priorities, Policies and Suggested Actions are well supported with clear and measurable indicators.

Looking ahead, a survey seeking employment data, business status and training needs will be launched in April, to help SPTO and its partners in tailoring programmes of support that are responsive to the needs of its members, particularly those severely impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Whilst there have been a number of surveys done since the borders closed, the SPTO and development partners acknowledge the lack of updated sector specific data being shared through existing initiatives.   National Tourism Offices (NTOs) and private sector tourism businesses are encouraged to contribute to the survey and extends its appreciation for the continued support rendered to ensuring that regional programmes help address the needs at national level.

Should you be interested in participating in this survey, please send an email to to request a copy.
