Australia recommits to second phase of Vanuatu-Australia Policing Justice Program

The Government of Australia, through the Australian High Commission in Vanuatu, has reaffirmed its support towards policing in Vanuatu by recently signing the second phase of the Vanuatu-Australia Policing Justice Program (VAPJP).

Australia has been supporting the justice sector and policing in Vanuatu since 2000. In 2017, it launched the first phase of VAPJP, which lapsed this year.

With the extension of project, VAPJP is expected to roll out in the next four years.

At the signing ceremony, the Acting Commissioner of Police, Colonel Robson Iavro expressed words of appreciation to the Deputy High Commissioner of Australia to Vanuatu for the continuous support from the Australian government specifically towards policing and the justice sector in the country.

Director General of Internal Affairs, Cherol Ala also acknowledged that funding from the project had assisted police officers deal with domestic violence issues in the islands.

Australia’s Deputy High Commissioner to Vanuatu stressed that with strengthened partnership and cooperation, the police force is expected to achieve a lot of developments within the next four years through this project.
