12 April 2018The Minister of Tourism, Nicole Bouteau, participated in the awards ceremony of the Air France Paddle Festival held Saturday at the end of the day, on the site of the park Vairai, Punaauia, accompanied by the regional delegate of Air France in French Polynesia, Alex Hervet.
Thanks to a record number of participants and previous successful editions, this paddle festival has become a must-attend event in Polynesia, the Pacific, and even abroad.
Dedicated “Best Race of the Year 2015” by the American magazine Sup Connect, and thanks to its important notoriety through its media coverage, it became in 2018 the first stage of the 10 events of the 2018 World Tour Paddle League. So now an essential stage of the world circuit, selected from thousands of races around the globe.
Organized with five events for different categories and distances, the event gathered 364 competitors, including more than 25 foreign participants. They were able to appreciate the beauty of our islands through excursions and visits. With the help of Tahiti Tourisme, specialized media from Europe and America also made the trip to cover the event and make documentaries about the destination.
The Minister was able to meet and discuss with Paddle League representatives Brian Meyer and Christopher Parker. They expressed their thanks for hosting and organizing the event. During the competition streamed on the internet, the races were attended by more than 7,000 people. Nicole Bouteau warmly thanked Alex Hervet and the entire Air France team in Polynesia for the success of this event which contributes to the reputation of the destination Tahiti and its islands in the world.
