29 August 2017The People’s Republic of China is helping Samoa to host the Pacific Forum Leaders meeting in Apia which will coincide with the Teuila week in September.
China is donating 20 brand new cars to assist government to providing transportation for the Pacific Leaders from attending the 48th annual Pacific Forum Leaders Summit.
The vehicles have arrived with an official handing over next week.
In the meantime, Cabinet has also approved a budget of $1.1 million tala (US$442,000) to host the Forum Leaders Meeting which starts from September 4-8 September.
Australia and New Zealand have also donated AUD$200,000 (US$158,000) equivalent to $400,000 tala and NZ$200,000 (US$144,000) or close to $345,000 tala respectively to assist Samoa host the event.
The annual forum will be attended by Pacific leaders and high level government officials from 19 Pacific Forum countries not including Forum Observers and Forum Dialogue Partners.
It is anticipated that 350 to 450 delegates including the regional and international media as well as non-government organisations will also be attending.
