In a move to strengthen the entire South Pacific region as a desirable international cruise destination, CLIA Australasia md Joel Katz has renewed a memorandum of understanding with South Pacific Tourism Organisation Chief Executive Chris Cocker.
The MOU was signed on the eve of the 5th South Pacific Tourism Exchange 2018 being held in Adelaide April 12 and 13.
Katz said the MOU will support the development of cruise tourism and help to deliver further economic benefits to the South Pacific over the years ahead.
The South Pacific remains the most popular cruise destination for Australians and New Zealanders, with CLIA statistics showing more than half a million holidaymakers from the two nations taking cruises to the region.
‘It is very important to our member cruise lines that we support South Pacific nations to better understand the cruise industry and recognise the importance of sustainable cruise tourism in the region,’ Katz said.
Cocker welcomed the renewed relationship between CLIA and the SPTO.
‘It will create a platform of sharing of information and insights to support the continued growth of cruise tourism in the Pacific,’ he said.
