Regional Tourism Organisations Partner to Strengthen Tourism in Small Island Developing States
12 April 2022The stunning new InterContinental Lifou Wadra Bay Resort will open at the end of 2022, a partnership between the owner of the property, SODIL, and IHG Hotels & Resorts, which will operate the Resort under a Management Agreement.
IHG is committed to shaping the future of responsible travel globally, and in 2021 it launched its ‘Journey to Tomorrow’ 10-year responsible business plan that works towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. It’s a commitment to supporting its people and making a positive difference to local communities, while preserving our planet’s beauty and diversity… not just today but long into the future. As part of its focus on people, communities, waste, energy and carbon & water, it has already made some bold changes, including the removal of all miniature toiletries from its estate.
In the lead up to opening of InterContinental Lifou Wadra Bay Resort, the hotel management team has worked closely with the property owners and traditional landowners, who continue to be part-owners in the land, to ensure the development is sympathetic its heritage and pristine location on an exclusive stretch of pristine beach.
It has also been committed to providing hospitality careers to the local community, already recruiting and training more than 50 people in frontline and functional roles, and is working with the Island Province to build and train a future talent pipeline.
