16 August 2017Tourism Minister Nicole Bouteau received on Tuesday Isabelle Klein, secretary general of the GMPP (Polynesian Dive Monitoring Group).
This newly created union is the first Polynesian union representing the diving professionals of French Polynesia. Its objectives are to represent and defend the personnel of diving centers, to improve the safety and quality of services, to promote and develop training and local employment in the diving sector.
On the occasion of the forthcoming examination by the Assembly of French Polynesia of the draft “law of the country” relating to the exercise of underwater recreational diving, Mrs. Klein wished, as a group, to meet with the Minister In order to raise awareness of the specific characteristics of diving instructor trades and dive guides who practice these occupations on a daily basis and on their current working conditions.
This meeting also allowed them to discuss the provisions of the reform project.
On this occasion, Nicole Bouteau recalled that the objectives of the reform in progress are those posted since:
– define a new regulatory framework that homogenizes national and international practices;
– strengthening security;
– set a framework for the development of local employment needs.
These new provisions will also allow the development of the diving market in Polynesia. This is a niche market that is constantly growing in a destination renowned for its exceptional dive sites.
