SUVA City played host to more than 3000 passengers of the cruise ship Explorer of the Seas yesterday.
Despite the public holiday observed in the country, handicraft stores and other vendors were open to welcome the visitors and provide tours around the city.
George Lend of Sydney, Australia, said the vessel had departed Sydney on December 22 and made its first stop in Lautoka on Monday.
“We got into Suva this morning (yesterday) and the weather is slightly overcast but this did not stop us from getting off the ship to go exploring,” Mr Lend said.
“The last time I came here was three years ago so it is good to be back and we were following the current bad weather that happened in the country a few weeks ago. We depart again today (yesterday) and will be at sea for a day before we call into Vanuatu on Thursday and then to New Caledonia.”
Explorer of the Seas last visited Suva in April this year. It is scheduled to arrive back in Sydney on January 3.
The cruise ship is owned and operated by the Royal Caribbean International.
