22 October 20172,000 mangrove plants were planted along the foreshore of My Suva Park.
22 Fiji Airways staff and their families from Suva and Nausori had gathered at the foreshore of My Suva Park to plant the mangroves as part of their initiative “Every Take Off One Tree”.
Fiji Airways had last year pledged to plant a tree for every international take off from the Nadi and Nausori airports to help offset carbon emission and contributes towards the environment.
Fiji Airways Manager Sales, Christopher Dalton says that for Fiji Airways, the initiative is also a fitting compliment to the leading role Fiji is playing in the global fight against climate change with it’s Presidency of COP23.
The Ministry of Environment and Department of Forestryalso assisted the National Airline with planting resources.
Meanwhile the Fiji Airways staff in the Western division have planted about 500 Mangrove plants along Saweni Beach in Lautoka.
