Fiji celebrates World Tourism Day in many ways

RENEWED POLICY
The Ministry of Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport (MCTTT) of Fiji is in the process of renewing the Fijian Tourism 2021 plan As a result, MCTTT is also developing a complementary National Sustainable Tourism Framework, which will outline policy direction, with a clear vision, goals and an action plan for the first three years of implementation.
To ensure an all-encompassing and inclusive approach for the development of the Framework, a series of public-private dialogues with various tourism stakeholders have been planned. The first of these took place virtually in August. Subsequent public-private sessions are planned for October into early next year. This initiative is the result of a joint partnership with the International Finance Corporation and the MCTTT.

VISIT TO NAMOSI ECO RETREAT
Along the theme of this year’s World Tourism Day, “Rethinking Tourism”, Fiji also spent the day at Namosi Eco Retreat – a tourism business supported by the MCTTT.
As part of the Fijian Government’s efforts to focus on a more inclusive tourism, that supports sustainability and offers authentic experiences, the MCTTT continues to engage and encourage responsible tourism.

FIJI REPRESENT THE PACIFIC AT THE OFFICIAL WTD CELEBRATIONS IN BALI
Fijian Minister for Tourism, Hon. Faiyaz Koya, joined the G20 Tourism Leaders and Heads of Indonesia, Bahrain, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Spain, Republic of Korea, Germany, United Nations World Tourism Organisation and World Travel and Tourism Council at a high-level debate in Bali, Indonesia on ‘Rethinking Tourism’ on World Tourism Day.
Key was putting people and the planet first. Under the Republic of Indonesia’s presidency, the Panelists discussed opportunities for tourism to advance in national agendas, building on a smarter and greener travel and tourism sector.
“For Fiji, and the Pacific, when it comes to rethinking tourism it’s not just an afterthought from the pandemic. We started rethinking tourism years ago purely because of climate change. It is on our doorsteps and is the single greatest threat to our industry. So the challenges for us can be insurmountable,” said Hon. Koya.
