Kana Vinaka Cookbook wins at Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2018

            June 14, 2018

Contemporary island cuisine cookbook, Kana Vinaka was awarded the winner in the Best South Pacific Food Culture category at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2018.

“As the sole entry from Fiji and the Pacific amongst 215 countries and regions, this is a wonderful recognition and a testament that we can do contemporary style cuisine in the Pacific using the abundant supply of fresh local produce,” said renowned chef and author, Colin Chung.

The cookbook which was launched in April 2017 “has simple recipes and concepts and shows the importance on what people at home can do with local produce,” said Mr Chung.

He added that “It really makes a difference if we ate local as opposed to imported goods and made correct choices even at home. We should stay away from processed food and if we do that there wouldn’t be so many non-communicable diseases (NCDs) which is rife in the Pacific, and that makes a difference.”

The awards took place from May 26 -27, 2018 in Yantai, China.
