‘Kiribati Institute of Technology delivers on skills for the future’

Kiribati Institute of Technology is a Kiribati Government-owned Technical and Vocational Education and Training institute. It has over 50 years of experience and is the leading skills training provider in Kiribati, delivering quality-assured, accredited certificate qualifications in trades and technology, health and community services, hospitality and tourism and business and finance.

Since 2011, the Australian Government has supported inclusive skills training at Kiribati Institute of Technology through the Kiribati Facility and its Skills for Employment Program. The Kiribati Facility has enabled the delivery of programs at Kiribati Institute of Technology that create education and employment pathways and contribute to a more mobile and skilled I-Kiribati workforce.

The Employment Support Services unit at Kiribati Institute of Technology provides key support to the Ministry of Employment and Human Resource towards labour mobility, domestic and international, for I-Kiribati workers around the Pacific region.

Kiribati Institute of Technology partners with the Kiribati Marine Training Centre to deliver hospitality courses that prepare students for working in the tourism industry. This has seen alumni gain employment in Kiribati as well as in Australia.

Kiribati Institute of Technology delivers climate skills training and promotes the use of renewable energy on its campuses in South Tarawa and Kiritimati Island. Solar panels installed on the Betio campus supply energy to the national power grid. Electrotechnology students are trained in maintaining solar panels to give them skills for employment in the growing renewable energy sector. Plumbing trainers deliver water skill sets training on a number of outer islands to support local communities to operate and maintain safe community water infrastructure.
