Meet Selma Christensen: Internship to support Pacific Geopark Initiative

Miss Selma Christensen joined the Division of Sustainable Tourism at the Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) on a short 2-month internship programme which commenced on 8^th July.  With her strong background in sustainable development and geography, coupled with a track record of impactful work, Ms. Christensen brings invaluable experience to the Pacific Geoparks Initiative.

Selma Christensen recently completed her Master of Arts in Sustainable Development and Geography at the University of Saint Andrews in Scotland. She has previously held roles in climate finance, communications, information systems, and research. Her passion for sustainable development, particularly in addressing the socio-cultural impacts of development, is evident in her work and academic pursuits. Ms. Christensen plans to continue her studies in London, where she will be pursuing a Master’s in Economic Policy for International Development.

Ms. Christensen’s internship is a result of the division’s partnership with The Pacific Community (SPC). During her two-month internship, she has supported both SPC and SPTO in conducting research and compiling a project concept note to further this initiative in the Pacific.

Selma’s rich educational background and diverse experience makes her a valuable addition to our team. Although her time with us was short, the outcomes achieved have set a strong foundation for SPC and SPTO to advance targeted resource and partnership mobilisation on geoparks.  We wish Selma the best in her studies and look forward to welcoming her back to the Pacific in the future as a visitor!
