MICE Attacks! : Boosting Japanese Groups

            June 23, 2017

To stimulate group visits from Japan, New Caledonia Tourism and Aircalin are running an
incentive programme from April 2017 to March 2018, offering gifts to members of Japanese
tourist groups and an air ticket for the tour escort.
After a lack lustre 2016 for Japanese groups, New Caledonia Tourism, Aircalin and their partners have decided to strengthen promotion of this niche market which has both great potential development and profitability.
An “Incentive Programme” has been put in place for 2017, aiming to entice major companies who organise events for their staff or clients (MICE: Meetings, Incentives, Conferencing, Exhibitions) or those simply participating in a themed group trip. Starting in February with a visit to New Caledonia by the first dedicated MICE Fam Trip, this was followed by a second Fam Trip from 7 to 11 June, this time for the 7 staff members of the “H.I.S.” agency which specialises in MICE trips. Complemented by seminars and sales. Calls, the main objective of these Fam Trips was to increase market specialist knowledge of the destination’s attractions (quality hotel capacity, range of activities, beautiful scenery, security, etc.).
In order to convince these TO/agencies and their clients to book, an incentive programme offering gifts and advantages will run from 1 April 2017 to 31 March 2018. During this period, for any group of over 14 participants, each group member will receive a beach bag (NCT), a fan (Aircalin) and a voucher worth 8,000cfp which can be spent on a wide range of activities (guided tours around Noumea, a cocktail, a dance show, restaurant meal, boat trip, discovery of Kanak cultural traditions, etc.), whilst the group escort will receive a free airline ticket.
New Caledonia is thus aiming to attract more Japanese groups who are looking for new resort destinations.
