Pacific Week Of Agriculture Set For Grand Opening In Vanuatu
12 October 2017In 2015, Polynesian residents made 78,000 stays abroad, for a total expenditure of 15.7 billion FCFA, announced the Institute of Statistics (ISPF) in a recent study.
The institute reaches this conclusion on the basis of the information provided by the Resident Attendance Survey (EFR) which is carried out all year round with the assistance of airlines. The information is all the more interesting because it offsets the revenue generated by tourism in Polynesia, to the benefit of our islands.
This contribution from local customers is nevertheless important for the financial balance of our Air Tahiti Nui company.
Then Minister under the government of Oscar Temaru, Jacqui Drollet had tried to encourage his fellow citizens to visit Raivavae (Australes) rather than Las Vegas … but the message made a flop so much the desire to escape is as great as natural for islanders.
“The length of stay is less than fifteen days for half the trips. However, with regard to the period of departure, the median level is 20 days for the months of June, July December and 13 days for the other months … The most visited countries are the United States, France and New Zealand, “ observes the ISPF. This is not surprising considering that the Polynesians especially want to move during the school holidays and mainly to destinations served by Air Tahiti Nui.
Finally, with regard to expenditure incurred outside our borders, the Institute notes that, on average, Polynesians spend 200 000 Fcfp per trip.
