MS Viking Sun Cruise Liner Makes First Visit To Fiji

VIKING Ocean Cruise’s fourth cruise liner, MS Viking Sun, made its first port of entry to Fiji waters yesterday.

With more than 900 visitors onboard, the cruise liner berthed at the Kings Wharf for a few hours, allowing guests some time to explore Suva City under perfect weather. MS Viking Sun captain Atle Knutsen said travel should be more than just a trip.

“It should be a doorway to cultural insight and personal enrichment,” Capt Knutsen said.

“That is why our intimate, inclusive cruise itineraries are designed to help our guests explore nuances of their destination, its food, culture, people and customs.”

Mr Knutsen said this was not the only ship from Viking Oceans Cruise ships coming to Fiji, because six more of their vessels were set to visit Fiji. “We had to find a way to sail across the Pacific and to show our guests just how beautiful the Fiji Islands are,” he said. “This is our first call to Fiji, the cruise liner is only three years old.

“We started in 2015, our first ship was the Viking Star and then we had the Viking Sea, the Viking Sky and now the Viking Sun.

“We have six more ships that will be visiting your shores and because our ships are now seemingly popular, we will definitely be back here to Suva.”

Fiji Ports Corporation Ltd chief financial officer Roshan Abeyesundere said Fiji was honoured to welcome the MS Viking Sun. “On behalf of Fiji Ports Corporation and the people of Fiji, we are honoured to welcome your guests and crew for the first time to the Kings Wharf here in Suva,” he said.

“We are fortunate and blessed that we have about 100 cruise liners visiting us each year and we have planned for 131 cruise liners to visit our shores this year.”
