Mystery Island In Top Five Destinations Of Asia And South Pacific Region

The Independent Traveler has ranked Mystery Island among the Top Five Destinations to visit in Asia and the South Pacific.
Confirming the achievement for the tiny southern island and Vanuatu, spokesperson Amanda says, “Congratulations! We wanted to share the exciting news that Mystery Island has just been named a Top-Rated Asia & South Pacific Cruise Destination in Cruise Critic’s 2017 Cruisers’ Choice Destination Awards.
“Our awards are given based entirely on consumer feedback submitted on the Cruise Critic website over the past year.”
While announcing the breaking news, an excited Acting Director of the Department of Tourism Development, Donald Pelam says the “good news indeed” is one of the reasons why the Government has to work closely with Tafea Province and Mystery Island Tourism Holdings Limited (MITHL) and the chiefs of Aneityum to ensure visitors to the island are catered for in all their essential needs.

The Acting Director has met with Azure Pure who have assured him they are ready to work with the relevant authorities to provide water for the destination.
While he respects the decision of the chiefs against the sale of alcohol on Mystery Island, the Acting Director says he has written to MITHL to request the possibility of sale of alcohol on the island only during cruise liner calls, to be made available strictly to visitors and not locals.
He points out that some tourists cannot go without their beer which is why it is important that alcohol should be made available on the island for them.
He welcomes the close working relationship between his Office and the Vanuatu Tourism Office and Acting Director General, George Borugu, as crucial to help push the destination to the next level with new products to promote the Mystery Island experience.
An additional benefit that filters through to handicraft makers especially on Malekula is the current partnership between Mystery Island and Malampa Handicraft Centre at Lakatoro, which sends its handicraft products for sale on the southern island.
