National Day 2025: Celebrating Progress through Sustainable Tourism

This year, the Solomon Islands marked its 2025 National Day with a lively display of unity, cultural pride, and a renewed commitment to sustainable tourism and inclusive development. The celebrations served as a powerful reminder of the nation’s determination to rebuild, recover, and reimagine its tourism sector as a force of resilience, prosperity, and environmental stewardship.

The heart of the celebration was the 2025 National Trade Fair, held from June 30 to July 7 in Honiara, under the theme: “Trade for Transformation – Rebuilding the Happy Isles.” The Trade Fair showcases the Solomon Islands’ growing portfolio of sustainable and community-driven tourism offerings, with key highlights including:

• Locally made handicrafts and products by rural artisans, women entrepreneurs, and youth innovators.
• Eco-lodge packages, immersive cultural tours, and community-based experiences.
• Exhibits promoting responsible investment, digital tools for tourism, and climate-conscious practices through public-private partnerships.

In his National Day remarks, Solomon Islands Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele spotlighted tourism as a strategic driver for:

• Economic empowerment across rural and urban areas.
• Preservation of cultural heritage and Indigenous knowledge.
• Expanding opportunities for women in business and youth-led ventures.

The PM reinforced the government’s ongoing support for inclusive tourism growth, ensuring that benefits reach grassroots communities and inspire the next generation of tourism leaders.
