Munda International Airport Set to Open in mid 2018
15 January 2018Our tourist market from Japan is expected to be boosted this year with a strengthened relationship between Tourism Fiji and a Tokyo-based travel representation and public relations consultancy.
The country’s tourism marketing agency has appointed the consultancy — Aviareps — to act as its representation agency in Japan, effective from January 4, 2018.
Aviareps is recognised as a global leader in tourism, aviation and hospitality representation with 63 offices in 47 countries around the world.
The selection followed an in-depth review process by Tourism Fiji.
With the country’s tourism earnings about $9.5 million from Japan during the September quarter of last year, Aviareps will work closely with Tourism Fiji in Japan to continue to position Fiji as a premier leisure destination.
This is to increase visitation, spend, and market share for Fiji in Japan.
As part of this effort, Aviareps will plan and deploy a series of strategic marketing initiatives, in the areas of trade engagement, trade marketing, public relations and consumer promotions.
Boosting this further was the launch of Fiji Airways direct flights between Tokyo’s Narita Airport and Nadi International Airport with service three times a week starting July 3, 2018.
“We are thrilled about the new direct service by Fiji Airways to Japan starting July this year, and we are confident that Aviareps’ expertise in destination marketing will help us reach and welcome more visitors from Japan in the years to come,” said Tourism Fiji chief executive officer Matthew Stoeckel in a statement.
“We look forward to working with the Aviareps team in Tokyo, in order to re-build our strong presence and relationships in-market with the travel trade as well as with key media partners in Japan.
“We have an extensive calendar of activities planned for the market as we prepare for the launch of the new service and will be sharing opportunities for trade and industry to participate in shortly.”
Aviareps chief executive officer Edgar Lacker shared similar sentiments and expressed their gratitude in being chosen by Tourism Fiji’s international representation agency in Japan.
“Our sales, PR, and digital teams on the ground in Tokyo have well-established travel trade and media networks, specialisation in outbound travel promotion, and the passion to ensure Fiji’s success in Japan,” Mr Lacker said.
“As market leaders, our innovative approach to destination marketing will position Fiji as a top-of-mind destination for increasing numbers of Japanese travellers.”
