Pacific Tourism Organisation attends the 53rd Pacific Islands Forum, Emphasizing Unity, Resilience, and Cultural Heritage in Tonga

As August comes to a close, the Kingdom of Tonga hosted the 53rd Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting (#PIFLM53). The Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO), a member of the Council of the Regional Organisations of the Pacific (CROP), attended this significant event, encouraging and emphasizing unity and collaboration across the region.

This gathering was not only about addressing the region’s challenges but also about celebrating our shared identity, and resilience, and connecting tourism through aviation. The theme of this year’s meeting, centered on transformative resilience to build back better, aligns closely with the ongoing work of SPTO.

The traditional music and dance showcased during the opening ceremony highlighted Tonga’s rich cultural heritage and served as a powerful reminder that resilience is more than survival—it’s about embracing and preserving what makes us unique, even in the face of adversity.

Members of CROP had the privilege of observing the Pacific ACP Dialogue and discussions among Small Island States and Territories. The Pacific ACP Group Leaders Dialogue focused on securing support for the #SamoaAgreement, emphasizing the importance of the Pacific’s global partnerships, particularly with the European Union.

Meanwhile, the Pacific Smaller Island States (SIS) Leaders convened to explore a renewed approach to their work and partnerships, as well as to consider recommendations from the recent SIS Review. Reviving and reconnecting the Smaller Island States remains a priority, alongside strengthening their recognition and integration within the regional framework.
