Pacific Tourism Organisation speaks at the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) 2025 Conference
27 June 2025The Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) recently participated in the Asia-Pacific Hotel Industry Conference & Exhibition (AHICE), Fiji Investment in Tourism Summit, June 24-26 at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa. Now in its third edition, AHICE Fiji is one of the region’s premier platforms for high-level dialogue on hotel investment, tourism trends, and destination growth, drawing leading industry stakeholders from across Fiji and the wider Asia-Pacific.
This year marks a significant milestone as SPTO joins AHICE for the first time, participating as part of the official Fiji Airways delegation. SPTO’s attendance at AHICE Fiji 2025 further demonstrates its dedication to unlocking tourism investment and marketing potential across the Pacific and ensuring the region’s voice is represented in global conversations on sustainable tourism development.
“Our involvement in AHICE Fiji 2025 reflects SPTO’s ongoing commitment to amplifying Pacific tourism voices in high-impact global spaces, and I would like to thank Fiji Airways for inviting SPTO to be part of their delegation,” said SPTO Chief Executive Officer Christopher Cocker. “This aligns directly with Strategic Focus Area 2 of our Strategic Plan 2025–2029—delivering marketing support and facilitating valuable events that position the Pacific as a competitive, sustainable, and culturally rich tourism destination.”
Through its participation at AHICE Fiji 2025, SPTO strengthened engagement with industry leaders and explored collaborative opportunities with hotel operators, tourism investors, trade media, and regional stakeholders. This strategic involvement supports several core objectives, including the promotion of the South Pacific Tourism Exchange (SPTE) 2026 to new contacts and potential sellers within Fiji, to enrich and diversify future participation.
It also provides a valuable platform to generate event leads and build meaningful connections across the accommodation and media sectors, thereby increasing visibility and support for SPTO’s regional initiatives. Additionally, SPTO used the opportunity to advocate for the restructuring of its Industry Membership Programme (IMP) to expand membership and align more closely with industry priorities.
The event also served as a timely forum to share updates and gather interest in key SPTO-led initiatives such as the Pacific Sustainable Tourism Policy (PSSP) and the Pacific Storytelling Toolkit, both of which play a vital role in strengthening the region’s tourism positioning and sustainable development efforts.
The event is managed by Travel Business Media, publisher of HM Magazine and other global travel brands, and follows the record-breaking AHICE Asia-Pacific summit in Adelaide earlier this year, which welcomed over 1,600 delegates.
