SPTE 2025 Media Session Sets the Stage for a New Chapter in Pacific Tourism
27 May 2025A delegation from the Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) is in Noumea, New Caledonia, this week to facilitate a two-day capacity-building workshop aimed at enhancing the digital and sustainable tourism landscape in the country.
Running from 22nd to 23rd May, the workshops will focus on key themes including Digital Marketing, Research & Statistics (R&S), and Sustainable Tourism. This strategic mission not only reinforces regional collaboration but also supports SPTO’s ongoing advocacy and awareness efforts to promote a sustainable, inclusive, and digitally empowered tourism sector across the Pacific.
SPTO Chief Executive Officer Christopher Cocker emphasized that the mission presents a timely opportunity to engage directly with tourism stakeholders in New Caledonia. He noted that this visit is a meaningful step in supporting New Caledonia’s recovery, promoting the Tourism Industry Membership (TIM) Programme, and providing the New Caledonia Government with updates on SPTO’s Regional Recovery Approach (RRA).
“Tourism is more than an economic driver—it is a platform for cultural exchange, environmental stewardship, and regional solidarity. As we implement our 2025–2029 Strategic Plan, we recognise the importance of equipping our member countries with the tools, skills, and data needed to thrive in an increasingly competitive and digital global tourism landscape,” he said.
“The Pacific Tourism Organisation is proud to undertake this important mission to New Caledonia, a valued member of our regional tourism family. We extend our sincere gratitude to the Government and people of New Caledonia for their continued membership and to the New Caledonia Tourism Office for their support and assistance in organising the workshop logistics. This engagement underscores our strong commitment to regional cooperation, knowledge sharing, and capacity building in key areas such as digital marketing, sustainable tourism, and research and statistics. We look forward to engaging in meaningful dialogue, delivering impactful training, and fostering continued collaboration that will benefit not only New Caledonia but the broader Pacific region.”
This mission underscores SPTO’s commitment to delivering targeted technical assistance, fostering strategic partnerships, and enhancing knowledge-sharing to build a more resilient and future-ready Pacific tourism sector.
