Pacific Tourism Organisation strengthens Industry Engagement in Fiji Ahead of SPTE 2026
19 February 2026The Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) welcomed the Director of the Pacific Islands Centre (PIC) of Japan, Mr Ryuzo Saito, during a courtesy visit, reinforcing the long-standing partnership between the Pacific region and Japan in advancing trade, investment, and tourism cooperation.
The engagement provided an opportunity for both organisations to strengthen dialogue on tourism promotion between Pacific Island Countries and Japan, with discussions focusing on collaborative opportunities linked to SPTO’s upcoming South Pacific Tourism Exchange (SPTE). The meeting highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships in expanding market access and supporting sustainable tourism growth across SPTO member countries.
SPTO Chief Executive Officer Christopher Cocker emphasised the significance of Japan as a strategic partner for Pacific tourism development.
“Japan continues to be an important and valued partner for the Pacific region. Our collaboration with the Pacific Islands Centre strengthens pathways for tourism growth, trade engagement, and investment opportunities that benefit Pacific communities and tourism operators,” said Mr Cocker.
SPTO remains committed to working closely with PIC to advance shared regional priorities and further strengthen Pacific–Japan economic and tourism cooperation.
