Papua New Guinea Tourism Agencies To Undergo Review

All agencies operating under the Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture will undergo review.
This is according to the new Minister for Tourism Arts and Culture Emil Tammur during his handover takeover on Wednesday.
Mr Tammur said he had already begun discussions with each of the agency’s heads including Tourism Promotion Authority (TPA), National Cultural Commission (NCC) and National Museum Arts and Gallery (NMAG) however is not satisfied with the briefs and is yet to appreciate the nature and contents of the reports provided to him.
He stated that the hype of the general election and formation of government is over and it is time to get into real business of working with limited resources under the ministry.
He said the government is now faced with a crippling budget deficit triggered by the global economic downturn as a result has left the ministry with a difficult choice.
“But we must make those decisions that are critical for our survival as agencies mandated with powers over tourism, arts and culture – discussions centered on self sustenance and reliability must be initiated by all agencies.
“Despite these challenges, government priorities remain a priority in the next few years in which our ministry will be playing little yet critical roles through each of the respective agencies. I have received briefings form TPA, NCC and NMAG however I am still studying those briefs and am yet to appreciate the nature and contents of the report,” he said.
Mr Tammur said discussion will be centered on reviewing of policies, operational manuals and his visions as the new minister.
“I come from a private sector background with no public sector exposure so I will be expecting you all to lift your performance and be more productive.
I will be result oriented and I want to see government policies being implemented rather than frustrated and stagnated,” he firmly said.
