PIC holds Pacific Islands Business Seminar In Japan

Pacific Islands Centre, the Tokyo based office of Pacific Trade Invest (PTI) held the Pacific Islands Business Seminar earlier this month in association with the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) at the latter’s head office.
More than 120 people participated in the seminar. Guests included Federated States of Micronesia Ambassador John Fritz, Fiji Ambassador Isikeli Mataitoga, and Papua New Guinea Chargé d’affaires Samson Yabon as well as Masatoshi Sugiura, Director of the Oceania Division of Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended.
Pacific Island Centre (PIC) Deputy Director Takehiro Kurosaki delivered the keynote speech after which several companies that are successfully developing businesses in the Pacific Islands region, shared their experiences with the audience.

Honda Motor Company presented its Electric Vehicle (EV) charging-related demonstration experiment in the Marshall Islands, Nansei Environmental Laboratory spoke about treating muddy water utilising coconut fibre in Samoa and Tachibana Company shared its experience about the import and sales of Fiji’s Adi Chocolate.
The presenters then participated in a panel discussion titled “Business Opportunities in the Pacific Islands”, which was was moderated by Associate Professor Noriyuki Segawa from the Kindai University.
The Global Environment Partnership Office of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry made a presentation about prospective climate change adaptation business in the islands.
Finally, PIC Promotion Coordinator Reiko Takada outlined the business mission to the islands that is planned for the northern hemisphere’s fall season this year highlighting past experiences of business missions to Fiji and Samoa.
In his closing speech, PIC Director Roy Saito, with reference to the guest speech by Director Sugiura of the Oceania Division, asked many private companies to join a business mission to the Marshall Islands for the Japan-Republic of the Marshall Islands Trade and Investment Seminar, which is scheduled to be held in Majuro by the end of this year.
