Update on Bunker Area Uplift Project
The project to uplift the bunker area besides the Church of Jesus of Latter Day Saint (LDS) at Betio has come up to its near completion and now left with some other works to be done before the expected date of completion. The bunker area uplift project requires the LDS Church to put up a fence around the whole area of the bunker and to construct or operate a car park for the purpose of providing car parking for visitors to the bunker and LDS Church members including the church visitors as well.
As reported by the Site Manager, Mr. Collin Smith, today Wednesday 13th December 2017, he mentioned that the work on uplifting the bunker area is almost completed with 5% more to its completion. The project is expected to complete at the end of January 2018. Mr. Smith also mentioned that while on site since the start of the project, he was deeply touched by the compliments from the many visitors/tourists who came to take photos of the bunker which in other words this Bunker Area Uplift Project does not serve only the needs of the LDS Church and Government of Kiribati but also the increasing demands from visiting tourists coming to Kiribati for any commemorating purposes of the Second World War.
