Port Vila Cruise Transport Association Launches Its Uniform

The Port Vila Cruise Transport Association has launched its new uniform yesterday at the Ports and Harbor precinct.

The occasion was witnessed by representatives from the Police Force, Department of Tourism, State Law office, Public Land Transport Authority and the Vanuatu Mobile Force.

The PVCTA President, Mr Elton Worwor said that the launching of the new uniform is another step higher for the association as they and stakeholders are working towards a standardization of vehicles to be used by taxi and bus operators.

“The launching of the uniform is a start to the project and we are working closely with line departments to make sure we deliver the best service to our tourists on cruise ships as we the first locals to meet them at the wharf,” he said.

“The association has worked on so many failures that has happened to ruin the reputation of the country as a destination and all members affiliated in the PVCTA have learned from their mistakes and improved.”

The Director of Ports and Harbor, Henry Worek commended the PVCTA on their step towards a better quality transportation service for cruise tourists.

“This is the start to many more positive developments for this sector as my office is putting together plans for a remake of the wharf that will only accommodate cruise ships and no longer cargo boats,” he said.

“There are plans in place to turn the dock house beside the Ports & Harbor Office to become a terminal where tourists can be picked and dropped off when disembarking and embarking the ship.”

Director General of the Department of Tourism, George Borugu reiterated that the PVCTA drivers must wear the uniform with pride and respect as they are the ears and eyes of Vanuatu as they cater to the cruise tourists.

“Though you have changed from the outside with a new uniform but change must come from the inside, your characters and attitudes when you wear this uniform must be that of our values as a country in terms of respect and hospitality towards our visitors,” he said.

“It is always a long road to success, and there still more work to do make a better change and make tourists choose Vanuatu as their destination and want to come back again.”

Mr Worwor has reminded the PVCTA drivers that the uniform will only be worn during cruise ship days and no any other days or for any other activities.

“This unique brand is exclusively for the PVCTA drivers and must be worn during working days only.”
