The Pacific Ecotourism Recovery Initiative is a join initiative between the Pacific Tourism Organisation, the Pacific Community and the UNESCO Office for the Pacific States and is focused on developing Geoparks as a potential tourism segment.
In the wake of COVID-19, SPTO Member Countries identified a strong need for the diversification of the tourism industry as well as revenue streams. As such, the opportunity arose to assess the feasibility of developing selected existing ecotourism sites in the Pacific with the potential to be developed into Geoparks. The preliminary feasibility assessment has been conducted in four sites: Savaii, Samoa; Gaua, Vanuatu; Funafuti, Tuvalu and Fiji. The assessment will be followed by extensive stakeholder consultations and a detailed demand analysis. You can access the report below.
