1 October 2017A record of 545,110 visitor arrivals were recorded within the first eight months of this year compared to 511,760 over the same period last year which is an increase of 6.5%.
This was highlighted by the Minster for Industry, Trade and Tourism Faiyaz Koya while speaking at the launch of the International Year for Sustainable Tourism for Development in Suva earlier today.
He adds that the tourism earnings for the 1st quarter of 2017 was $377.3 million, which is a 10.7% increase compared to the same period last year.
Koya stressed that sustainability and innovation be the cornerstone of our progress as we celebrate our achievements.
The Tourism Minister says that we should all strive to be an industry where sustainability becomes an integral part of business practices.
He adds that we must ensure that in everything we do, we are holistically contributing to the social, economic and environmental development of the tourism industry.
