Rosie Events Inducted into the Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards Hall of Fame
12 August 2025Fiji’s iconic tourism and hospitality company, The Rosie Travel Group, has once again set a benchmark in sustainable travel with the delivery of Fiji’s first-ever fleet of electric tourist coaches. This milestone aligns with the company’s ambitious goal of making 50% of its transport fleet zero-emission by 2030.
This F$1.5 million dollar investment into the future for the Rosie Travel Group is in alignment with the Fijian government’s National Sustainable Tourism Framework – as the company partners with the private sector and environmentally conscious travellers to respond to the climate change challenge.
The Chief Guest at the Delivery Ceremony was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, The Honorable Viliame Gavoka, who welcomed the delivery of the new coaches, on the margins of the 2025 Global Sustainability Tourism Conference (GSTC2025) held at the Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort, on Wednesday 06th August 2025.
Building on its leadership in sustainable transport, Rosie was the first travel company in Fiji to introduce a fleet of electric vehicles last year, offering international visitors a luxury, zero-emission hotel transfer service. This year, Rosie continues to lead the way by becoming the first travel company in Fiji to take delivery of a fleet of next-generation 53-seater electric coaches.
Rosie’s Group General Manager, Mr. Eroni Puamau said, “Fiji is our home. As a Fijian family-owned business, protecting and nurturing our island environment is a priority. Our journey to electric vehicles began three years ago with extensive research and visits to electric vehicle manufacturers in China. After thorough evaluations, we selected Bonluck Bus & Coach Group (BLK), part of the giant conglomerate China Hi-Tech Group Corporation (CHTC), to manufacture and deliver our next- generation zero-emission electric coaches. The President series is one of the world’s most advcanced all-new wide-body coach liners, providing a zero pollution, quiet and smooth ride for our customers along with touch-screen navigation control for our drivers. The coaches feature advanced battery- electric technology, fast charging with a 300 kilometer range, ample luggage space, and luxurious interiors designed to Australian standards”.
BLK is a pioneering coach manufacturer and was the first Chinese company to receive ADR (Australian Design Rules) approval, meeting stringent design and safety standards for operation on Australian roads. The company has been at the forefront of eco-friendly transportation, introducing fully electric and hydrogen fuel cell coaches to the Australian market and exporting to over 100 countries worldwide.
A critical component of this investment is the integration of advanced solar technology. In collaboration with Solar Hub Fiji, Rosie has installed the country’s first-ever solar-powered fast- charging stations at its transport hub. At a cost of $ 0.6 million, these stations generate 110 kilowatts of energy per hour through solar panels, reinforcing the company’s commitment to clean, renewable energy solutions – 100% powered by the Fijian sun.
Rosie Travel Group’s Managing Director, Mr. Tony Whitton, reinforced the company’s commitment to sustainability.“We provide transfer solutions to over 200,000 international visitors annually, contributing significantly to Fiji’s carbon footprint. We had to explore greener alternatives, and we believe China’s leadership in electric vehicle technology, coupled with Fiji’s vast solar energy reserves, is the key. By expanding our service offerings to our partners involved in large group movements – such as conference and incentives, cruise ships and luxury private jets, means that our previous investment in fast-charging solar panels also allows these vehicles to also be powered using sunshine – which our tropical island has an abundance of. We know this will be a long journey. But we have made a start.”
The Rosie Travel Group’s sustainability efforts have been widely recognized. Over the past six months, the company has received two prestigious sustainability awards: one from the Prime Minister of Fiji and another at the Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards.
With this groundbreaking initiative, Rosie Holidays continues to redefine sustainable travel in Fiji, setting new standards for the tourism industry while ensuring a cleaner, greener future for generations to come.
