8 July 2018China continues to be a lasting true friend for Samoa since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries more than 40 years ago, and remains to be much more as a huge potential market for Samoa in terms of tourism and investment.
The Government of Samoa through the Samoa Tourism Authority and other relevant Government agencies with the Private Sector, are looking to break into the Chinese tourism market and explore investment opportunities.
Mr Marcus Lee, a former Wall Street Investment Banker, who is well known with his multilateral works in growing businesses from China to several countries and regions across the globe was in the country last week, and met with the Hon. Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, and Ministers of Cabinet on innovative ways and networking opportunities on how to effectively attract both the quality Chinese visitors and the top Chinese investors to Samoa.
Mr Lee will further present on August 8th when he returns on ways for Samoa to prepare in catering for the Chinese visitors or to be – China Ready.
In his presentation, Mr Lee detailed the China market updates, top income sources, challenges of Samoa in the eyes of China, attracting the Chinese luxury clients, top depature cities in China and suggestions in moving forward.
Hon. Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Fatialofa Lupesoliai Dr. Sailele Malielegaoi acknowledged Mr Lee following the meeting.
“On behalf of the Government I thank you, particularly your interest in assisting to develop our economy through tourism,” said Tuilaepa.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged the STA CEO for the initiative to invite great partnerships in efforts to further promote Samoa.
Mr Marcus Lee, is the elected Chairman of the Association of SME Business Owners (ICIF) with 11,000 companies including tour operators. ICIF focuses on China Outbound Tourism and Investment in support of “China Go Abroad”, a Chinese Government National Policy. Since inception in 2002, ICIF have organized events in over 40 countries, and promoted these destinations to China outbound travel market through various initiatives.
He was appointed Economic Advisor to Chinese Municipal Governments, has adviced over 400 Senior Chinese Government officers, including Provincial, City Party Secretaries and Mayors on foreign partnership and new destinations. He was a speaker for APEC, ASEAN Summit, ASEM and Forbes and an author of several books including international best selling title “How to Outsmart China” featured in CNN, Bloomberg and China Daily. He is a Sir
Marshall Full Scholarship holder (UK) and speaks 6 Chinese languages with 4 foreign languages.
