Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and Spa on Saturday organised a riverside fundraiser to raise funds for a four-wheel drive for the Sigatoka School for Special Education.
The four-wheel drive will help the school in their outreach programme.
This annual riverside fundraiser near the Sigatoka River riverbank in Sigatoka town was well attended.
Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and Spa general manager Francis Lee said: “We organise this fundraiser every year. This is for a very good cause.
“I am happy that people turned up in large numbers and whatever the guests buy, the money goes to the school.
“We have done many voluntary works here for the school, sand dunes and other projects.”
Mr Lee said the riverside fundraiser was part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
“I think we put a lot of emphasis on this one because the school is benefiting a lot,” he said.
“We will continue with this initiative and hopefully we will expand this to bigger platform to get nearby communities or villages to be part of this fundraiser.”
Mr Lee has urged other hotels and resorts to engage with them or organise a similar initiative to help the school in other projects.
Sigatoka School for Special Education head teacher Asenaca Sukanatabua said: “I am thankful to the Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and Spa for this initiative.
“We have been under Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and Spa’s embrace programme for many years.
“I joined this school in 1990’s and from then on Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and Spa has been partners in education with our school.”
Ms Sukanatabua said Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and Spa’s riverside fundraiser last year helped with the refurbishment of the school kitchen.
“The fundraiser today (yesterday) will help us purchase our four-wheel drive to help us reach out to our students who are lives on the highlands,” she said.
