Making a strong impression on key US-based travel media and creating further strong inroads into this key visitor source market, the Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau led by CEO, Josefa ‘Jo’ Tuamoto has hosted its first-ever media event in Los Angeles.
Mr Tuamoto, who was accompanied by SIVB senior marketing officer, Ellison Kyere, welcomed more than 25 high profile media from Southern California representing some of the most influential national travel publications in the country.
These included National Geographic Traveler, USA Today, and Islands Magazine.
The event was also attended by Western US Airline Pros Director of Sales & Marketing, Sasha Bullen, who represents Solomon Airlines in the US, and also Bilikiki Cruises managing directors, Sam Leeson and Kellie Oldfield.
CEO Tuamoto took the opportunity to underline the important role North American tourism plays for the Solomon Islands and also shared the plans for a series of special events in 2017.
Notably these include the 75th commemoration of the Battle of Guadalcanal in August along with the destination’s second annual Dive Festival slated for October in the Western Province, both of which Mr Tuamoto said were sure to attract a good number of US visitors.
The Los Angeles media event coincided with SIVB attendance at the world’s largest dive-related event, DEMA 2016 in Las Vegas where the national tourist office met with more than 40 international dive journalists.
The SIVB visit was seen as very timely given the latest US visitor arrival figures released by the Solomon Islands National Statistics Office.
These show US arrivals for the period January – September 2016 have continued to increase – up 10.8 per cent from 1039 in 2015 to reach in 1152 in 2016.
