South African High Commissioner Presents Credentials To Solomon Islands

Her Excellency, Ms. Beryl Sisulu said her country has a profound interest to strengthen bilateral relations between the Republic of South Africa and the Solomon Islands.
South wants to enhance cooperation at multilateral fora, such as the United Nations (UN), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, the World Trade Organization (WTO), the World Health Organization (WHO), the Commonwealth of Nations, and the African, Caribbean, and Pacific Group of States (ACP) amongst others.
“We are convinced of the need to establish closer collaboration with like-minded countries, towards advancing the development agenda of the South globally, and within our respective regions of Africa and the Asia-Pacific.” She says.
According to the High Commissioner, closer collaboration with like-minded countries is essential to address the challenges faced by the Africa and the Asia- Pacific regions, stating that “it provides ways forward for developing countries to pool their collective resources and experience to the benefit of humankind globally”.
At the same, High Commissioner Sisulu said commonalities shared between her country and the Solomon Islands, which includes the blue economy and sustainable management of the resources of our vulnerable marine ecosystems are critical areas in which both countries can build and strengthen relations, including reinforcing each other in the international climate change negotiations.
The Governor General Sir Frank accepted High Commissioner Sisulu’s credentials and sent his warm greetings to the President of South Africa Joseph Gedleyihlekisa Zuma.
Sir Frank acknowledges the collective beliefs, values, principles and aspirations that the United Nations and other International Organisations represent in the world.
He said there are common challenges in upholding these beliefs, values, principles and aspirations such as security issues at the domestic, regional and international levels, the rule of law, climate change, natural disasters, poverty and hunger to name a few.
“Each member of the United Nations is confronted with these issues and having to deal with them is not an easy task for some countries with budget limitations and domestic constraints,” he said.
He also reiterated that the bilateral co-operation between diplomatic friends is a way forward to foster developmental programs saying the Republic of South Africa and Solomon Islands do have the opportunity to develop areas of mutual interest to enhance mutual benefits.
