6 May 2024Amidst the rhythmic waves of the South Pacific, a vibrant symphony of cultures and landscapes beckons travelers from around the globe.
Welcome to the 2024 South Pacific Tourism Exchange (SPTE), a realm where the sun-kissed shores meet the vibrant beats of tradition, and where every encounter is a testament to the endless possibilities of tomorrow.
This evening SPTE organisers the Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) brought together sellers from across its member countries, buyers from around the globe, and its sponsors for the official formalities at Port Denarau Marina as SPTE 2024 embarked on a journey celebrating the theme “Pacific Fusion: Celebrating Diverse Products and Cultures and the essence of the Pacific spirit.
In opening the event Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Hon Viliame Gavoka hailed SPTE organised by SPTO as a cornerstone event fostering regional tourism development.
He mentioned that the SPTE, renowned as the premier Pacific travel trade show, served as a vibrant platform uniting Pacific Island partners with international buyers from across the globe.
Mr Gavoka expressed that SPTE was more than an event, it was where business relationships were forged, nurtured, and solidified. Partnerships extend beyond transactional exchanges, embodying shared goals, mutual respect, and a commitment to sustainable growth.
“This occasion represents a significant milestone as we celebrate the Pacific and our diverse products and cultures. It symbolises the cohesion and potential of Pacific tourism and reflects the essence of cooperation and optimism towards a more promising tomorrow,” Mr Gavoka said.
“This event transcends geographical boundaries, bringing together tourism professionals, enthusiasts, and stakeholders from diverse corners of the globe. It is a vital bridge, connecting people with a passion for travel, exploration, and sustainable tourism.”
This year’s SPTE welcomed international travel buyers from Europe, Japan, the United States, India, Hong Kong, China, New Zealand, and Australia, alongside representatives from the Trade Media sector. Additionally, sellers representing diverse destinations participated in the event.
In acknowledging Mr Gavokas’s remarks, SPTO Chairlady Adela Aru echoed similar sentiments and affirmed SPTOs dedication to advancing regional tourism.
“SPTE exemplifies our commitment to this shared journey. It offers a dynamic platform to connect buyers and sellers worldwide, fostering collaborations and driving sustainable growth,” Ms Aru said.
“SPTE continues to celebrate and embrace the uniqueness of Pacific diversity and the potential for growth within the tourism industry,” Ms Aru said.
Ms Aru also expressed her sincere gratitude to the Government of Fiji for its invaluable support in hosting the Board of Directors meeting and workshops.
