Warm Greetings Pacific Tourism Family and Partners!
Happy World Tourism Day! This special edition of the Sustainable Tourism Newsbeat brings to you brief reflections and highlights of national initiatives which have contributed to building inclusive growth in the Pacific through tourism. The theme for this year of “Tourism for Inclusive Growth” is exceptionally fitting as the sector traverses the most turbulent of times in history. The recently approved Pacific Sustainable Tourism Policy Framework clearly reflects the importance of Thriving and Inclusive Communities as a key Goal for the future.
As we journey towards 2030 and beyond, we, as a region have agreed to work together in ensuring that tourism supports the empowerment and wellbeing of our communities. By prioritizing social inclusion and repurposing tourism to deliver greater benefits for our communities, we should be in a better position to achieve inclusive growth for our present and future generations. The COVID-19 pandemic has presented the region and the world a unique opportunity to make tourism a force for good. Good for our People. Good for the Planet.
World Tourism Day will be commemorated over a period of one month by SPTO and its members through targeted awareness and advocacy on social media. Please join us and contribute if you wish. This would not have been possible without the support of our Member Countries so we would like to extend a big Vinaka Vakalevu and Thank You to all our National Tourism Organisations and their teams for the hard work that they do, day in and day out for our people.
In closing we would like to congratulate PNG and Tuvalu for another year of Independence! PNG had celebrated earlier this month their 46th Independence Day whilst Tuvalu will be celebrating their 43rd anniversary today
