Kokomo Private Island: $100 Million Resort In Fiji
4 April 2018
Cruising, Super Yachts Bring In $42 Million
4 April 2018Tourism Minister Nicole Bouteau received Thursday the president of the Easter Island Tourism Office, Edgard Hereveri, who came to Tahiti as part of the Pacific Business Days. He was accompanied by Yvonne Nahoe, vice-president of the tourism board, and Lynn Rapu, cultural ambassador for Easter Island.
The delegation wished to thank French Polynesia for the invitation they received and the welcome they received at the Pacific Business Days. This participation, which they consider to be important and enriching for their island, has opened the doors to the Pacific.
The tourist office has 57 members. The tourist growth of the island is 15% per annum with 120 000 tourists for 8 000 inhabitants and 3 000 rooms, mostly in homestay accommodation. The reputation and image of the destination are strong points to attract visitors. The tourism professionals of Easter Island wish to develop several markets outside the specific and main one of Chile: Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Germany, the United States and Brazil.
A development of exchanges with Polynesia is also desired. Easter Island is serviced by the airline LATAM with 13 weekly flights from Santiago de Chile and 1 flight a week from Papeete. The tourist office wants the creation of a second weekly flight between Tahiti and Easter Island and the development of a “Tahiti-Rapa Nui” circuit for the Japanese, Australian and New Zealand markets. The Minister of Tourism, for its part, also spoke about the interest of Polynesia to develop the South American market.
Yvonne Nahoe recalled that her first visit to French Polynesia was in the framework of the Tourism Training and Tourism Forum in 2016, of which Easter Island was the guest of honor. Since that event, she has noticed a positive dynamic and growth of tourism for Tahiti. She wanted to thank Nicole Bouteau who was in 2016 at the initiative of this forum, as chairwoman of the Tourism Committee of the Assembly of French Polynesia. This invitation inspired the Easter Island Tourism Office to organize a similar event next September in Hanga Roa, an event to which the Minister of Tourism of French Polynesia was invited.
Beyond economic exchanges and in the tourism sector, the delegation of Easter Island also wanted the development of cultural and educational exchanges with French Polynesia.
