29 April 2025The Tanoa Hotel Group marked a significant milestone in its ongoing commitment to workplace wellbeing with a week-long Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) initiative from April 21–25, 2025, across all Tanoa Hotel properties.
Under the theme “Revolutionizing Health & Safety: The Role of AI and Digitalization at Work,” the initiative blended wellness, innovation, and team engagement, culminating in a powerful seminar held on April 24 at the Tanoa Waterfront Hotel.
Tanoa Hotel’s, Area General Manager Fiji, Mr. Narend Kumar during his opening speech said, “Our people are our greatest asset. As we look toward to the future, we must continue evolving—embracing technology and digital solutions that enhance not only our safety systems but also the overall wellbeing of our teams.”
Executive Director & Founder, Mending Minds Foundation, Ms. Prem Singh shared her powerful insights on mental health in the workplace and said, “Mental health is not just an individual concern; it’s a collective responsibility. When we break the silence around mental health, we create a workplace where every employee feels supported and valued.” She discussed strategies for reducing stigma and fostering an environment that encourages emotional well-being, stressing that “supporting mental health is a key pillar of a thriving, productive workforce.”
Senior Divisional Dietician for Lautoka & Yasawa Region, Ms. Wainikiti Koroi delved into the crucial connection between diet and workplace wellbeing. “What we fuel our bodies with directly impacts our energy levels, focus, and overall productivity,” she explained. “A balanced diet isn’t just about physical health; it’s about creating the mental clarity and resilience needed to navigate a busy workday.” She emphasized the importance of incorporating nutrition as part of a holistic approach to maintaining a healthy work-life balance, concluding, “Investing in what we eat is an investment in our long-term wellbeing.”
Tanoa Hotel’s Sustainability Health & Safety Manager, Roneel Chand, brought both vision and clarity to the seminar. In the strategic planning segment, he highlighted the need for unity and forward thinking, “Our OHS Committee’s goals for 2025 reflect a shared vision—one where safety is proactive, not reactive, and every team member plays a part in risk prevention”.
Later, in his forward-focused session on “AI & Digitalization vs Health and Safety at Work,” Chand explored the transformative role of emerging technologies in modern safety frameworks, “From predictive analytics to digital hazard reporting systems, we’re witnessing a shift,” he said. “Technology isn’t replacing human insight—it’s enhancing it. It’s about working smarter, not harder.”
Throughout the week, employees took part in interactive activities designed to promote physical and mental wellbeing while strengthening their understanding of workplace safety. Highlights included a 5km Walk across all properties, mindful breathing and stretch sessions, a Fire Safety Relay Challenge, and a Workplace Hazard Hunt. The Compliment Chain initiative fostered positivity among teams, while dedicated time to visit on-site gardens encouraged moments of calm and reflection.
Adding a creative dimension to the day, the Poster Competition encouraged each property to visually express their interpretation of the 2025 theme. The entries reflected a deep understanding of both the practical and human sides of safety in a digital age.
The 2025 OHS Week was more than just a series of events—it was a reaffirmation of the Tanoa Hotel Groups holistic approach to safety, wellbeing, and innovation. By blending traditional values with forward-thinking strategies, the Group continues to lead the way in creating safer, more connected workplaces for today and tomorrow.
