Tourism Australia To Launch $12M Content Creation Initiative For Tourism Operators
18 March 2021The Pacific Tourism Waste Action Initiative (PTWAI) plastics repurposing training organised by SPTO in partnership with Taveuni Tourism Association was launched at the Nakia Resort in Taveuni on Tuesday 9 March. The 3-day training is a celebration of women and their contribution to our communities and society. The trainings are facilitated by SPTOs Fijian Creative Consultant, Warwick Marlow and builds on the success of the first virtual PTWAI training held in Kiribati in December 2020, which has also been recognized globally as the Best Creative Tourism Strategy at the 2020 Creative Tourism Awards.
The initiative provides an opportunity for the tourism sector to participate in waste reduction initiatives through the promotion of circular economies and community engagement in green income generation activities, visible through sustainable tourism development. Participants are expected to greatly benefit from the trainings as they acquire new skills in creating jewelry and artefacts out of PET plastic bottles. The SPTO team will also be conducting the training in Savusavu in conjunction with the Savusavu Tourism Association in the coming week.
