4 April 2018The Tahiti Minister of Tourism, Nicole Bouteau, and the President of the Chamber of Commerce, Stéphane Chin-Loy, signed Wednesday morning, a support agreement at Poly3D School to engage in a pedagogical work around an application of virtual tour of a tourist site of the island of Tahiti, in augmented reality.
With the director of the Poly3D school, Philippe Martin, and the Director General of the CCISM, André Bihannic, and all the students of the school, they then experimented with the first developments and made a visit to the premises of the school. ‘school.
Beyond this specific program, the link between digital content development and production is part of the 2015-2020 Tourism Development Strategy, and the Minister was reminded of the importance of guiding future creations with the tourist needs of our destination. Whether to enrich the visitor experience, to make information and access to our culture more accessible and more fun, to study trends and uses, or to spread our culture, these new technologies have their place, from today, in the tourism industry.
Poly3D therefore chose for this first application to work around the Marae ‘Arahurahu, in Paea , and to be able to propose an application that is akin to a guided tour and an immersion in the place and its history. Several stages and several characters must accompany the visitor: a traditional sculptor, a historical and animated reconstruction in 3D, a Tupapa’u fare on the original site, or a reconstituted offering ceremony. As and when the visitor, the visitor can see visual and sound scenes and animations, on his smartphone or tablet, with information directly in the language of the user.
This type of application must respond to a dynamic of immersion and revitalization of our cultural and historical sites. The talents of the apprentices and students of Poly3D will be put to use on a concrete case, with the aim of finalizing an application that can subsequently be downloaded via Google Play Store and Apple Store.
The minister was very impressed by the application and commitment of this young generation, which already has many notable achievements to its credit, whether in video games, 3D animations, or original applications. She wished to reaffirm to the president of the CCISM his will to see collaborations and synergies between tourism in the broad sense and the various training programs initiated and carried out by the Chamber of Commerce.
