Timor Leste Becomes Signatory To The Pacific Sustainable Tourism Statement Of Commitment

On 8^th February, Timor Leste’s Minister of Tourism, Commerce and Industry, H.E Jose Lucas do Carmo da Silva, formalized the country’s commitment to future sustainable tourism development through the signing of the Pacific Sustainable Tourism Statement of Commitment.

The Statement of Commitment unites signatories and the Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) in collaboratively implementing the Pacific Sustainable Tourism Policy Framework (PSTPF), which was endorsed by SPTO’s Council of Tourism Ministers in October 2021. 

Timor Leste’s commitment signifies its support not only for regional tourism recovery efforts but also for tourism’s transformation, towards becoming a more prosperous, equitable, resilient and inclusive industry. Moreover, guided by the PSTPF and through the implementation of its National Tourism Policy, Timor Leste continues to advance towards establishing a tourism industry that prioritizes sustainability and local communities whilst ensuring business competitiveness. Timor Leste is the 6^th SPTO member to sign the Pacific Sustainable Tourism Statement of Commitment; joining the Federated States of Micronesia, New Caledonia, Samoa, Niue and Vanuatu.
