Pacific Tourism Organisation and Samoa Tourism Authority release Annual 2025 International Visitor Survey (IVS) Report
26 August 2026The Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO), in partnership with Pacific Trade Invest Australia (PTI Australia), has completed the Australian leg of the 2026 Treasures of the South Pacific (ToSP) Roadshow, connecting Pacific tourism representatives with Australian travel trade professionals across six cities.
The Australian leg travelled through the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Wollongong, Sydney and Melbourne, generating interest from more than 800 travel agents across the six locations. This marks a new record for the Australian leg of Treasures of the South Pacific and reflects continued interest from the Australian travel trade in the diverse tourism experiences offered across the Pacific.
The roadshow brought together representatives from across the Pacific. At the same time, SPTO and PTI Australia used the platform to showcase the Hidden Treasures of the Pacific, highlighting tourism opportunities in Naoero (Nauru), the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), Tuvalu, and Kiribati.
The presentations provided these destinations with an opportunity to connect directly with Australian travel professionals, strengthen industry relationships and build greater awareness of their tourism products and experiences within the Australian market.
Pacific Tourism Organisation Chief Executive Officer Christopher Cocker said the continued partnership between SPTO and PTI Australia demonstrated the value of regional collaboration in creating greater market opportunities for Pacific destinations.
“Treasures of the South Pacific provides an important platform for our destinations to connect directly with the Australian travel trade and build awareness of the unique experiences available across our region. For smaller Pacific destinations in particular, these opportunities to have a direct voice in key markets are extremely valuable. We are pleased to continue working alongside Pacific Trade Invest Australia and our destination partners to strengthen these connections and support greater visibility for the Pacific.”
PTI Australia Trade Commissioner Tim Martin attended the Sydney event, reaffirming the importance of the ToSP Roadshow as a long-standing joint initiative supporting greater awareness of the participating Pacific destinations in the Australian market.
“The Treasures of the South Pacific Roadshow continues to be a fundamental joint initiative, providing an important platform to spotlight the rich and diverse opportunities across the Pacific and connect our destinations with the Australian travel trade,” said Martin.
The Sydney, Wollongong, and Melbourne events were also joined by Myjolynne Marie Kim, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of the Federated States of Micronesia in Canberra.
Kim presented on the Federated States of Micronesia alongside SPTO and PTI, adding a valuable FSM perspective to the roadshow programme. Speaking about her experience, Kim said she had the opportunity to “learn a different glimpse of Australia and the travel trade.”
SPTO extends its sincere appreciation to Richard Skewes, Richard Taylor and the entire Treasures of the South Pacific team for their continued partnership, coordination, and support in delivering the Australian roadshow. Appreciation is also extended to all participating Pacific destinations, partners, and Australian travel trade professionals who contributed to the success of the six-city programme.
PTI Australia Tourism Manager Onorina Fugawai, alongside SPTO’s Marketing Content Creator Bernadette Tunidau-Lee, delivered presentations and engaged directly with travel trade representatives across the six cities.
The Australian leg concluded in Melbourne following six successful events and strong engagement from the travel trade. The wider 2026 Treasures of the South Pacific programme will continue with the New Zealand leg in September, followed by further engagement with partners and stakeholders as preparations begin for the 2027 programme.
