28 September 2017The Assembly of French Polynesia celebrated Wednesday the World Tourism Day under the theme of “Sustainable Tourism as an instrument for development”.
Sylvana Puhetini, president of the legislative commission of tourism and organizer of the event, in the René Leboucher hall, beautifully ornamented for the occasion, wanted this day to be the showcase and demonstration of our identity by highlighting our culture and some of our traditions.
The elected official opened the day by making an allocation on the valuation of our know-how and the significant induced effects of the tourist sector in terms of creation, wealth and employment.
Marcel Tuihani and Édouard Fritch respectively president of the assembly of French Polynesia and president of the country, have followed suit.

In the morning, creative workshops showcasing local traditions and Polynesian culture welcomed many visitors. Throughout the day, they enjoyed participating in workshops and demonstrations of crown making, coconut leaf plaiting, singing and dancing, pareo tying, mono’i making, tasting culinary, traditional games and coconut shelling.
Tasting of local culinary specialties such as keukeu, pôpoi and raw fish, was particularly popular with the public.
