Tourism Strategy 2015-2020: More Than 40% Of Actions In Progress, Even Completed

The second meeting of the steering committee of the tourism development strategy of French Polynesia for the period 2015-2020, was held Thursday, under the chairmanship of the Minister of Tourism, Nicole Bouteau, in the presence of Vice President Teva Rohfritsch , and the head of the European Commission’s Office for Overseas Countries and Territories for the Pacific, Tomás Mateo-Goyet.

This meeting was an opportunity for the representative of the European authorities based in Nouméa, as for the other members of the COPIL, representatives of the Government, the Assembly of French Polynesia, the Union for the Promotion of Municipalities (SPCPF) and Economic, Social and Cultural Council (CESC), to take cognizance of the good implementation of the tourism sectoral policy and governance bodies of the sector.

The 2015-2020 tourism development strategy is based on a plan of 134 structuring and coherent actions whose progress has been presented during the meeting. Whether promotional, marketing and awareness campaigns, structuring arrangements, regulatory changes, the actions are underway or even completed for more than 40% of them.

The Institute of Statistics (ISPF) has also drawn up a report on the statistics of the tourism sector, showing a positive attendance constantly increasing and very encouraging figures for the year 2017 despite the economic difficulties, bad weather, strikes and ship refitings, which have been overcome and have not started the overall positive dynamics for tourism activity.

The various financing in the tourism sector were also discussed and special attention was paid to the 11 ^th European Development Fund (EDF), which is the first budget support granted by the European Commission in the tourism sector, a consistent scale for Polynesia.

The head of the European Commission’s office encouraged all stakeholders to continue the actions and dynamics initiated, and intensify partnerships with its services, until 2020.
