With the ocean beckoning, Fiji’s beautiful interior is largely unexplored. Maintained trails in Fiji’s National Parks offer some of the best treks in Fiji. These include the Sigatoka Sand Dunes (Sigatoka), Bouma Forest Reserve and Lavena Coastal Walk (Taveuni) and Colo-i-Suva Forest Reserve (Suva) and Koroyanitu National Park (Nadi).
Visitors can also escape the beach into the heart of Fiji’s big island with Talanoa Treks – Fiji’s only dedicated hiking company. The multi-day (2-3 day) hikes take visitors off the beaten track over sparkling rivers and dramatic, sun-kissed hills to remote villages – there’s no better way to experience Viti Levu’s rugged interior. The hike overnights in villages and rustic lodges before ending with a tour of the postcard-worthy traditional village of Navala.
Fijian custom requires that a chief’s blessing be sought before trespassing on communal land. Over 80% of Fiji’s land is still owned by indigenous landowners so it is advisable to trek with a certified tour company who will arrange this on your behalf.
