Vanuatu Tourism Infrastructure Project Opening

The Vanuatu Tourism Infrastructure Project (VTIP), more commonly known as the Seafront Beautification Project, is due to be officially opened this Friday, 1st September.
The initial Memorandum of Understanding for the project was signed in 2014, and in the face of setbacks such as Cyclone Pam, the Project took a little over two and half years to be completed.
Situated at the heart of Port Vila, this Seafront Beautification Project is expected to contribute to achieving positive outcomes such as functional and safe tourism infrastructure development, improve quality of tourist experiences for cruise ship (and other) visitors, increased economic benefits to the Vanuatu from the improved tourism infrastructure use, increased resilience to the natural disasters and climate change and in long term be economically beneficial to the people of Vanuatu in terms of sustainable tourism.
The opening ceremony will run for half a day, and will feature cultural aspects and activities along George Kalsakau Drive and the seafront. The day will start with a march from Fung Kuei to the Seafront stage at 12.30pm. All members of the public are encouraged to attend this march. This will then be followed by the formal opening ceremony with the invited guests.
Cultural exchanges will be carried towards the donor partners and customary landowners, as a token of appreciation from the Government of Vanuatu.
In addition, there will be the unveiling and naming of the Seafront Park and the two new market buildings.
This major investment worth Vt1.4 billion would not have been possible without the support of the New Zealand Government and the Enhanced Integrated Framework.
