Over 2000 Chinese Tourists Get A Taste Of Vanuatu
15 December 2016The workshop was made possible through funding assistance from the New Zealand Government under the Vanuatu Strategic Tourism Action Plan.
“Now that the Operational Plan is developed, we will want to pilot it for the year 2017 to see what can and cannot work from the plan, highlighting and addressing resource needs along with capacity building.”
The Department of Tourism is working towards empowering the industry to allow more time and resources for the Department of Tourism to focus more on the policy aspect of managing the sector, and to let the industry take a leading role but with continuous support from the Department.
Part of the whole exercise also included the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Department of Tourism and the Tafea Provincial Tourism Association, terms of reference between the Department of Tourism and the Sanma Local Government Tourism Council and a memorandum of understanding between Department of Tourism and the Vanuatu Scuba Operators Association.
Other Tourism operators that operate under Torba, Penama, Malampa and Shefa will continue with the existing system of acquiring a tourism permit.
Director George Borugu reminded all participants that this is all his idea all along and he would like to thank all partners who have contributed to make his vision become a reality, particularly the New Zealand Government through the VSTAP Team Leader Geoff Hyde.
